Diazepam (including Mylan 477 generic version) is a member of the benzodiazepine family. Benzodiazepines are drugs that cause dose-related depression of the central nervous system. They are useful in treating anxiety, insomnia, seizures, and muscle spasms.

Mylan 477 tablets and other benzodiazepines may influence neurosteroid metabolism and progesterone levels which in turn may adversely influence the functions of the brain and reproductive system. Many benzodiazepines (diazepam 10mg, medazepam, estazolam, flunitrazepam and nitrazepam) potently inhibit the enzymes involved in the metabolism of neurosteroids. Long-term Diazepam administration, including Mylan's generics, may influence the concentrations of endogenous neurosteroids, and thereby would modulate the emotional state.
