Diazepam (Valium) (including DAN 5620 generic version) is a member of the benzodiazepine family. Benzodiazepines are drugs that cause dose-related depression of the central nervous system. They are useful in treating anxiety, insomnia, seizures, and muscle spasms.

All the benzodiazepines, including Diazepam, may increase the effects of other drugs that cause drowsiness. Among those substances, antidepressants, alcohol, antihistamines, sedatives (used to treat insomnia), pain relievers, anxiety medicines, seizure medicines, and muscle relaxants are found.
